Let's Begin...

How did we get here? At what point did we get that crazy notion that it made sense to knock down a perfectly good house and start over?

This is the house we demolished in April 2013. We lived eight wonderful years in this house. A great place to raise a child, spend holidays with family, and host parties for friends. This house was good to us, you could say.

But as it goes with any house, little things in the home start falling apart, or breaking down, or just begin to simply annoy you, and you begin thinking that it's time to fix them before they become big issues. Our home had its share of issues, a lack of useable space being one of them. So to try and remedy some of our space issues, I had this grand idea to move the washing machine and clothes dryer from their place in my tiny mudroom off our garage and bring them upstairs into an area of wasted space (I fondly called "the nook"), and designate an actual laundry room. That sounds like a sensible plan, doesn't it? Bring on the expert, The Architect, who is also a friend of ours.  What does he think of our idea? Can he make it happen? Fast forward FOUR years, the house is gone, and we are building a new one!  WHAAAT?! Let's just say we did A LOT of thinking over the course of those four years. We also looked at other homes in the area, looked at tear-downs, looked for vacant lots upon which to build, but nothing sufficed. Deep down, neither one of us wanted to leave our neighborhood - nor our property. So what do you do then? Well, you knock the house down and start over. Sensible, right? We haven't looked back for one second.
